Solar Concentrated Heating System at the Ramakrishna Mission’s Students’ Home in Chennai, Tamil Nadu

The receiver of ARUN®100 shines as it receives reflected heat from the mirrors of the steam generator at the Ramakrishna Mission’s Students’ Home in Chennai. The generator is designed to capture the maximum heat from the sun and use it to continuously turn water into steam. The steam is used to cook 120 kilos of rice per meal and provide approximately 3,000 meals to 700 students every day. The project is supported by UNDP and Government of India to encourage wider spread of the technology. Over the last two years, the rate of installation of such solar concentrated heating systems has more than doubled. [Photo: Prashanth Vishwanathan/UNDP India]
