From ‘Slash and Burn’ to Sustainability

Atula, a woman farmer from Mokokchung in India’s north-eastern state of Nagaland is cultivating crops on the farmland she leased from a local landowner for jhum cultivation. UNDP’s partnership with the government of Nagaland introducing sustainable land management practices has helped Atula, a woman farmer from the north-eastern state of Nagaland grow additional crops like ginger and peas, which she is able to sell at market and earn more income.
