Ruler 6 stack

    Newer Older

This is the output of stacking the six ruler shots using LR/Enfuse.

This is my first experiment in focus stacking.

There is a discontinuity around 2 1/4 inches. In this experiment I moved the point of focus by one half inch. It appears that the closer the focus, the smaller the interval needs to be.

In retrospect, it appears that my shot of the "2 inch" was not focused centered on the 2 inch but more on the 1 3/4 inch mark. That is probably what accounted for the discontinuity.

Nice experiment. Did you adjust the focus of the lens between shots, or move the camera with your macro rail? And, of course, there's a group for that: www.flickr.com/groups/547433@N21/

I used the focus rail. I wonder, and will probably experiment, if using the focus ring would result in a different product.

A flickr group on rulers. There IS a group for everything. LoL

Thomas I think it would be different, since moving the camera will change the perspective. Some lenses change their effective focal length as the focus changes, but I suspect this will be a smaller effect.

I think it will be fun to try and compare the products. :) I hope to have some time this coming weekend. Then I can show both experiments at the Exclusive Photo Club meeting. :)
