Back to the Real Life
The exit from the Hokusai Museum in Sumida-Ku, downtown Tokyo.
Japanese painter Hokusai (1760-1849) is the world’s famous artist who was born and died here in Sumida-ku.
He combined his passion for painting with traveling around the country and called himself old crazy painter.
When Hokusai was about to pass away at the age of 90, he opened his eyes and roared towards the sky.
“Please, give me life of another ten years, then I can become a real painter.”
Whenever I appreciate his masterpieces in the museum, I have to remember his words of last moment and ask to myself.
“Do I have such passion for anything? Am I really living life or just alive?”
