This is the second time I've encountered a gorilla who seemed to be performing for the people gathered at his enclosure, the first was at the Bronx Zoo. This fellow was initially sitting in a shaded area at the rear of the enclosure and decided to amble down to the front and sit on the edge of the moat. He munched on a branch or two and seemed to make eye contact with some of us. In a couple of the ensuing shots he seems to be staring directly at me and even seemed to want to intimidate me with a display of his teeth (what's captured here is the tail end of a yawn). Needless to say, I was quite glad for the presence of the moat. It's hard to capture the size and majesty of these creatures, though I daresay I think I may have gotten a hint of his soul in one or two shots.
