Quiraing (Cuith-Raing)

Up very early one morning to drive to the Quirang in the north east of the Isle of Skye to catch some fantastic light. The landscape here is a series of fractured towers and pinnacles (which are actually behind me in this shot, but will appear in later pictures) caused by landslips over millions of years. Apparently it's still occurring as the road at the bottom of the Quirang requires to be repaired just about every year because of land movement. It's a wonderful, fantastical place which wouldn't look out of place in Middle Earth and, in fact, parts of the movie 'Stardust' were filmed here.

At this time in the morning (about 7.00 am) I was lucky enough to be the only person here with only an eagle overhead and some wheatears flitting beside me for company. It was a great experience just to sit alone in this tremendous landsape and just drink it all in...
