Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

When I first joined Flickr a year ago, I was thrilled with all the inspiration and information I found. For someone just starting out in photography, Flickr was a goldmine of ideas.

This picture is an example of what I mean. When I first joined Flickr, I often enjoyed going to tania's photostream and seeing the amazing photos she takes of everyday things like her recent pictures of books. I found them so satisying to look at that yesterday, on an absolutely gorgeous day, I spent a good chunk of the afternoon hauling books up and down from the basement, trying to get a picture exactly like tania's. You would think that a stack of books is a stack of books. But no. There's a big difference between a satisfying stack of books to look at and one that's not quite there.

Bottom line. I love pictures of cats but I also love how Flickr can motivate and inspire me to see and photograph things in a new way.
