Rock Ptarmigan

I had just finished photographing a Red Knot in the tundra and was getting ready to stand up with my gear. As I prepared to stand, I noticed this camouflaged female Rock Ptarmigan less than 10 feet from me! She was so close I was actually embarrassed I didn't' see her sooner, and amazed that she didn't flush. They completely rely on their markings to blend in and evade detection.
