Front Street Marietta Ohio- 2
More Front Street buildings. This part of the city is no stranger to hard luck and devastation. The building on the left is the former Brownie's Bakery, which had survived many floods, but a fire in 2005 had all but destroyed it, finally closing the doors of the beloved bakery forever. Down from this was the Dutch Grill, Windelken's General Store, and a landmark restaurant called The Leader. The last building in this group was the former Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. Wendelken's was in this location for over 100 years. The Leader Restaurant opened in 1908. People travelled from miles around to drink the coffee and enjoy the entertainment. The Leader, Wendelken's and the A&P building were destroyed by fire in 2003 after two burglers set them on fire when they thought their fingerprints might betray their illegal entry.
