DIY Lens Hood
Wherever I go, I get comments on this hood. It's actually become a bit of a distraction when I'm trying to shoot photos.
The Canon hood is carbon fiber and costs like 500 dollars, which is absurd. The lens didn't come with a hood when I bought it, so I decided to improvise. This is a coffee can that I slit lengthwise so I could decrease the diameter. I put a tiny bolt though the front of the lens hood and placed a 5" hose clamp around the back. I can tighten or loosen to hose clamp to put on the hood/take it off. Normally I put the adjustment part of the hose clamp on the bottom, but I rotated it around in this photo for better visibility. I also painted the inside of the hood with flat black to kill internal reflections.
The hood is an inch or two longer than the standard Canon hood. However, I tried the combination on a full-frame camera and didn't have any issues with vignetting.
