The Formosa Cafe

Opened in 1934 right across from the former Warner Hollywood Studio The Formosa Cafe started out as a trolley-car restaurant and over the ensuing years the cafe has preserved its star-studded history making it an ever-trendy watering hole in West Hollywood.

Dimly lit inside, the two red and ebony bars are encased by walls of vintage photographs. Hundreds of black and white portraits line the walls and are autographed, evidence of the bar's former movie star patrons.

Check out the unique history and all the Hollywood stars that have frequented this legendary lounge & restaurant:

Update July 2015: New ownership of the Formosa has gutted the classic oriental interior that has been used in countless film and TV productions and made it look like every dark bland failed bar in LA.. this was quite disturbing to see.

Update: 2019, The Formosa closed in 2016 and in 2017 Bobby Green and the 1933 Group took over and spent 2.5 million renovating and restoring this historic Hollywood restaurant and bar with a grand opening June 28th 2019, it's now better than ever !!
