John Robertson at Mailand Station. On December 13, 2012, the New South Wales government announced a decision to close the railway line to Newcastle NSW at Wickham Station. The next week, John Robertson (the state leader of the opposition) and Penny Sharpe (the shadow minister for transport) took the train from Maitland NSW to Newcastle, but got off at Wickham where the line will be cut, and took a bus the rest of the journey. This was followed by a press conference at Newcastle Station, and some speeches in a park across the road.
