The Flawford Virgin and Child

Like other alabaster figures found under the chancel of Flawford church in 1779, this one has suffered some serious damage. However it is an important piece as it comes from the home territory of Nottingham medieval alabasters. It dates from the late 14th century which makes it an early example. The style of the carving shares common features with Northern french carvings from that time.
