"I Say Old Chap!"

Newer Older

This is an Emperor Tamarin monkey. Supposedly Emperor tamarins are thought to have been named after the Emperor of Germany, Emperor Wilhelm II, who also had an extremely long, white moustache!

Personally these monkeys remind me of the wonderfully funny and legend of stage and screen, English writer and performer, Jimmy Edwards!

Jimmy Edwards DFC (23 March 1920 – 7 July 1988) was an English comedic script writer and comedy actor on both radio and television.

He served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. His Dakota was shot down at Arnhem in 1944, resulting in facial injuries requiring plastic surgery — he disguised the traces with the huge handlebar moustache that later became his trademark. He was a member of the Guinea Pig Club.

He was a wonderful comedic talent - and a great handle-bar moustache grower!

Jimmy Edwards was a member of "The Handle-Bar Club" , formed in England in 1947 to celebrate the famous moustache....and its still going strong!

There is a link on this page to hear "Every Girl Loves A Fella With A Big Moustache" by
Jimmy Edwards.

Emperor tamarins range across Brazil and Peru, and they prefer lowland, evergreen and broadleaf forests and densely-grown forest margins.
They mainly feed on fruit during the wet season, along with a very small proportion of nectar, sap and fungi. During the dry season, nectar becomes the most important component of their diet, along with fruit and a small amount of flowers, sap, ants, snails and insect larvae.
Subspecies: Two.
Life span : 17 years.
Head and body length: 23-26cm, Tail length: 35-41.5cm, Weight: 350-450g.
It is a difficult task t photograph these guys, as they are constantly on the move, interacting with each other, running between different enclosures, and having to shoot through cage wire

I know what you mean about the wire. Makes it a hassle. Very nice shot though.
