Sean Connery at Edinburgh Film Festival opening 2008
Walking home this evening the cinema near me had a big crowd of people and media outside, realised it was the red carpet for the opening night gala screening for this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival (now moved to June, not the traditional August). I nipped over and got the camera out but some girls told me leaning over the barriers that I'd just missed Kiera Knightley, which is a shame as I'd have thrown her a pie, poor thing needs to eat more.
While I waited I heard a cheer and along the red carpet strode the unofficial king of Scotland, Sir Sean Connery. A bloody taxi pulled up right in front of us as he got to our end and this was the best snap I could get before he went inside. I have my first Film Fest movie tomorrow night. It must feel odd for Sean to come here - this cinema is only yards from where he used to live in the city's Fountainbridge area and the streets where he worked as a milk man many decades ago, now he comes back each year for the Film Fest as one of the most famous and richest actors in the world.
