The first replacement machine for the resurgent Somer Valley Wheels arrived today.

    "Demain on roule".

(Or, perhaps, as the supplier's strapline goes: "The Revolution will not be Motorised".)

Looks good! How does it ride?

shame about the rear gearing though....down to price i guesss.....looks nice enough...please to see the word 'resurgent' used..

It's a comfortable ride; handles well; brakes as expected for the price. Yes, agree with Rob, one would expect a higher spec rear derailleur for the price bracket, but I knew that when I bought it and it's fit for the purpose we got it for.

And we can always upgrade the drive train when it's worn out if we still like the rest of the bike.

Resurgent: Well it had to happen because the users of the scheme were not going to allow it to die.

I was commenting on the lack of user friendly and very low maintenance rear hub gears....but it would then be twice the price! (arguably last twice/thrice as long)..I have set the clock...lets see how long it lasts....i'll upgrade you for special price when it wears out, 8 speed Sturmey archer anyone?...

Ah! I see what you mean. Should have guessed really, coming from you. :-) Yes, I agree with you. 8-speed Sturmey Archer it is. You're on!

However, I should point out that my 13 year old Dawes hybrid still has the same low-spec Shimano derailleur it came with - guessing around 8-10k miles on the clock. But, then, I'm an inveterate faffer abouter when it comes to bikes so it probably gets more than its share of TLC
