Unes parets milenaries / Built more than a thousand years ago

XIII.

This is the inside of the central apse of St. Quirze de Pedret church. It was built in the IX Century with an ultrapassed arch, a typical visigothic feature, later copied by the islamic art, and not the other way arround. The wall paints are reproductions of the original ones from the X Century, now in a museum in Solsona. They are maybe the oldest paintings in Catalonia.

This beautiful and ancient church is one of the oldest in central Catalonia, being pre-romanesque. The main structure was built in the IX Century, although it was modified in the XIII Century. It's three apses have romanesque and pre-romanesque paints, now preserved in museums in Barcelona and Solsona. In the church you can visit the inside and see faithful copies of the paintings.
