Evan's Oil Paintings
Robin and I took up oil painting at a Ghost Ranch workshop with Taos artist Michelle Chrisman in October 2016. Primarily, though, I want to depict wilderness scenes that are miles up a trail and I don't want to drag my painting gear along. I like being able to enjoy an outdoor place thoroughly, without the pressure of making art, so I take lots of photographs, from which I can pick-and-choose my compositions. But I'm still painting in the plein-air alla-prima style. All of these works were completed in between 2 or 4 hours, in one sitting, following the principles that Michelle, following in the footsteps of the Impressionists, laid out for us at the workshop. It's been a tremendous experience, especially as I feel that my work is progressing nicely.
