Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

This bird was chasing insects attracted to the mangroves, and being chased in turn by Gray Kingbirds, at North Key, off Cedar Key in Levy County, on 14 June 2012. It was found in the course of a bird survey connected with a UF researcher's study of the relationship between cottonmouths and nesting birds. The photo was taken by Matt Williams, a wildlife student who works with the researcher. Stevenson and Anderson's The Birdlife of Florida (1994) list a number of June and July records.
