Holiday Traditions
As long as I can remember one of my family's holiday traditions is baking a Kugelhopf cake. The recipe has been handed down through generations and the cake pan was hand made by my paternal great grandfather who was a trained metal worker. This year my mother passed the baton to me and I made my first Kugelhopf.
A Kugelhopf is a Viennoiseries (French for 'Viennese specialties') baked good made from a yeast leavened dough in a manner similar to bread, or from puff pastry, but with added ingredients (particularly eggs, butter, milk, cream and sugar) giving them a richer and/or sweeter character, approaching that of pastry.
