Worthington dam (2)

These are pictures and a video of the dam at Worthington, WV, on the West Fork River. There has been talk for some time of removing the dams from Clarksburg, WV all the way down towards where it joins the Tygart River to form the Monongahela. These dams are not flood control, but mainly to provide water for communities, reduce silt and as you can see in these pictures, provide water power for mills. It is not known the purpose of the mill that sat on these foundations. History about many if not all of these towns along the West Fork River between Fairmont and Clarksburg (with the exception of Monongah) is sparse at best.

Here are the links for both sides of the argument. You decide for yourself. In the meantime, enjoy the sound and video and imagine standing there on the bank catching some fish.

The bridge pilings in the background are for the former Western Maryland trestle which went up the valley to Four States, Carolina and Ida May.
