Epstein's Visitation at Glenkiln

This is a 1926 bronze cast of the "Visitation" by the American-born twentieth-century sculptor Sir Jacob Epstein. It is sited on a brae above Glenkiln, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, UK.

Epstein specialised in major Christian and allegorical figures in bronze or stone, but was controversial during his lifetime for the frequent frontal nudity in his art.

The precative figure celebrates the Visitation of The Mother of Christ to her cousin Elizabeth to announce that she, Mary, is pregnant ( Luke 1:39-56 )

Further copies may be seen at Tate Britain, and at Baltimore ( Maryland ) and Washington DC
