Small fossil shark tooth, 8mm x 7mm. Miocene age.

Nikon 1 V1, C-mount adapter, prime focus of AmScope SMZ stereomicroscope, ISO 100, 4/5 second. Stack of 16 images using CombineZP.

Oblique illumination with built-in lamp diffused by a translucent cylinder made from a 35mm film canister. Subject rested on a microscope slide supported by an inverted lens hood adjusted so that the shadow from the hood extended under the fossil. Post processing in GIMP.
