Laysan Albatross - Phoebastria immutabilis

Ah! I love gliding.


The Laysan Albatross were coming in from their yearly migration to nest on the nearby cliffs. This one species of albatross is native to the Hawaiian islands. This one was photographed at the Kilauea Lighthouse NWR located on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.


The Laysan Albatross has a wide range across the North Pacific with 16 nesting sites. 99.7% of the population is found on the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.Its main breeding colonies are in the Hawaiian Islands, particularly the islands of Midway and Laysan.
