Op-Art Kalbelia - Pushkar Mela

Kalbelia Gypsies will literally sing and dance for their supper, being the nomadic people they are, wandering the Thar desert from place to place, performing for food and chai, and any money that comes their way.

The Pushkar Mela, end of October/beginning of November, sees a 'jamboree' of the Gypsy Caste, camel drovers, Hindu pilgirms - and a growing number of tourists - gathering in one big melting pot that is Pushkar.

Kalbelia Gypsy dancers are most supple and lithsome with a splendid display of rhythm and feel for their music, such as this enchanting Salome clad in purple here - 04/11/2011
