video art - CONFUSION
CONFUSION is my first ever piece of video art. I created it using the same technique that I use when I create my photographic art, which is to employ multiple layers of manipulations, effects and saves to produce imagery that is verging on abstract, yet still retains an echo of the foundation content.
I used both MS Movie Maker and MS Movie Maker Live to create CONFUSION. The music clip is called 'Proud' and it's by an English band called Headswim who very sadly split up in the late nineties - the silent gap in the music clip is my own for artistic effect and is not on the actual track.
CONFUSION may have a different meaning for each viewer. There is clearly a disguised head... but who is it? It could be an innocent Muslim woman, a terrorist, an anarchist, or a student protestor, or anyone else you decide to see. The confusion portrayed may be theirs, or it could be the viewers, or it may be the confusion of society in general about the type of person you perceive in the video... the choice is yours. CONFUSION works from different perspectives; just like the real emotion.
I think that my next art videos will be about 'emotions', because this is the theme that I feel naturally drawn to expressing/evoking via art and it was the focus for all my painted and mixed media abstract art in the actual world (rather than the virtual world) and video art seems to be an artistically exciting way of creation.
