Ozark Burrowing Crayfish
The precise species of this burrowing crayfish has not been established. It appears to be the same or very close to the same as the prairie crayfish of Missouri, Procambarus gracilis (Bundy), and the devil crayfish of Missouri, Cambarus diogenes Girard or the Osage burrowing crayfish, Procambarus liberorum. The series of photos includes some of one of the crayfish reentering its burrow after surface water soaks into absorbent, hydric soil of World Peace Wetland Prairie at about 3 a.m. April 24, 2007.
