Bield and bales
The unfinished shell of Lyveden New Bield a few miles from Oundle in deepest rural Northamptonshire.
Planned by Sir Thomas Tresham as a grand family residence, it was never finished as a consequence of his son's involvement in the Gunpowder Plot. Now in the hands of the National Trust, it is a fascinating place to visit since the landscape Tresham created around the house remained largely unchanged for the intervening 4 centuries.
Anotther couple of shots in the comments taken on a previous visit on a cold grey February day, which was actually May 19th!
