Cenote Samula, near Valladolid, Mexico

There are cenotes (fresh water ponds) located all over the Yucatan. We went to Valladolid to check out some of the better ones. We got there late in the afternoon and had to rush through them - but it was worth it. The first cenote was Samula - famous for having a big tree root hanging down through a hole in the ground. The other cenote is Dzitnup, almost right across the street from Samula. They are definitely worth checking out.

I took these photos in March 2009.
