Azorella compacta Phil.

These alpine cushion plants, locally known as llareta, are some of the weirdest Apiaceae I have ever seen. The sap they produce smells a lot like pine resin, and is used locally to help ignite fires, as it is highly flammable. I wonder if all those terpenes are functioning like a sort of antifreeze in the plant?
