The great crab feast, Kukak Bay, Alaska, 1964

    Newer Older

Taken in the summer of 1964 during University of Oregon archaeological excavations at Kukak Bay, Alaska. There was a crab boat near the mouth of the bay one day and we took our small boat out to meet it and got a box of crabs. We had no refrigeration, so we had to eat it all for dinner and breakfast. This was a real treat since most of the time we subsisted on dehydrated food, powdered eggs, pilot bread (crackers) and other food-like substances.
