Winter market, NYC - Jan 2009 - 17

More foreign tourists ... this couple had no interest whatsoever in the market, or the apples, or the cider, or anything else in the immediate vicinity. They were lost, and were consulting a map to see how to get wherever they were going....

These photos were taken on a random Saturday afternoon in late January 2009, about two blocks south of the movie theater where I was planning to see the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

I arrived half an hour early (as usual), and decided to wander around the area to see if I could find something interesting to photograph -- and stumbled unexpectedly upon a "green market" in the "pocket park" next to the subway station at Broadway & 66th Street. Aside from the essentially empty "DiPaola Turkey Farm" booth, the other vendors seemed to be selling apples (and hot cider) for the most part, though there were also a couple of stands selling honey, cookies, and pies.

Lots of people were walking by, and there were some chairs and small picnic tables where people could sit and relax, or perhaps enjoy some of the wares they had purchased. It was pretty cold when I took these pictures, probably around 25-30 degrees Fahrenheit, but there was also a dazzling bright sun that made the weather a little more tolerable....

After I finished taking as many pictures as I could reasonably imagine taking (80% of which were deleted before these "keepers" were uploaded), I walked back north to the movie theater. Along the way, I passed a guy wearing a billboard advertising a "going out of business" sale at Circuit City ... which had nothing to do with the fresh-food market I had just seen, but which were still sufficiently interesting that I couldn't help photographing them and adding them into the collection...
