Stuck On Silhouettes
As the title insists, you could say I was sorta stuck on shooting silhouettes this trip. No matter......this is my personal fav from the adventure...my wife didn't care for it so much so that's why as she is currently away for the rest of the weekend I'm posting it!!! What she doesn't know won't hurt her right? And yes, she's the boss...I can deal with...so should you
This is one of the first shots I got at the park when I got there. The sun was going down fast and I had no clue where to even start. I was a little overwhelemd at how much cool stuff Joshua Tree had to photograph. Everywhere you turned there was a shape, a figure, a sweeping view.
I used a polarizer, and stacked two Cokin Graduated ND filters on top of one another to get the color out of the sky. I think in all I was around 8 stops or so. I ht the tree with two quick pops from the handheld strobe. Strobe fired from the right at a 45 and from below the camera into the branches.....maybe 7 feet away?
White balance @ 5300 K and a slight tweak on the recovery slider in Lightroom.....that's it for processing
The wind was blowing here and there so it was hard to get the needles in the tree sharp....but after about 16 tries I got this one...and it was still fairly sharp.
