The King in knitted armour
Malmø's urban festival ended the evening before our visit on the Saturday morning. Few people in the streets - busy dismantling stands and stages from the concerts the day before. On Stortorget we saw that the huge statue of King Karl X Gustav had some strange things added to his costume. A hat with braids, some leg warmers and various other knitted pieces on the horse. Later we saw some other statues as well as some road signs had been decorated similarly.
We asked a few of the local people and the explanation was that in one of the stands a group of women wanted to advertise knitting, and invited people in to teach them how to knit, as knitting is not known to as many people as it used to be.
Decorating the King like this must be sinful... in a sweet, naughty way :)
