Cheiracanthium sp. (Yellow Sac Spider)

October, 2015. Vigo County, IN.

This small female was found in our apartment complex (2nd one so far) and is being held for later identification (likely is C. mildei). These interesting little spiders have been blamed for causing necrotic lesions similar to those caused by brown recluse bites. Recent case studies have shown that this is likely due to circumstantial evidence and medical professionals who were too quick to blame mysterious skin lesions on spider bites. In all likelihood, this spider is harmless aside from having a potentially painful bite.
