Putting the Flat In Flatiron: Milner Hotel (Formerly Henry Clay Hotel), 1538 Centre Street--Detroit MI
The Milner Hotel (built 1912) comes to a very narrow edge. It is characteristic of the "Flatiron" style of architecture. Detroit has its fair share of this type of building because of its downtown street plan (known as the "Woodward Plan," after Judge Augustus B. Woodward, whose design was partially followed). There are several wedge-shaped lots downtown that practically demand a "Flatiron" solution--this is an example.
