Lemuel Bowen House--Detroit MI

Woodward Avenue was once noted for its many fine mansions--now nearly all of them have been torn down--in many cases for cultural or commercial uses. The Bowen House has survived, but is now used by Wayne State University. The 1912 English Renaissance mansion was designed by George D. Mason (who designed several churches along Woodward Avenue). Lemuel Bowen was the treasurer and general manager of the D.M. Ferry Seed Company. He was also involved in a predecessor company of Cadillac, and was an insurance company executive.
