Kingston University Foundation Application
“Every generation laughs at the old fashions, but follows religiously the new.” Whether to depict status or personality, fashions have always played a major part in society, and never more so than now.

In pursuit of deepening my skills and increasing my chances of a career in art I feel an Art Foundation course is essential to add greater dimension to my studies and experiences and so help me to make an informed choice about my future direction. When I visited Kingston I was impressed by the facilities and it lived up to its high reputation. I am an art scholar at my current school where I am studying History of Art, Textiles and Photography, giving me a broad understanding of where my strengths lie.

In my current Textiles project, Vintage, I am reinventing old items through upholstery and design, researching artists such as Carolyn Quartermaine. I have incorporated fashion within my photography project, exploring techniques of advertisement and fashion photography. Perou is a strong influence.

Although I think Fashion or Textiles may be my future direction, I see Foundation Studies as the only next step for me. It is an opportunity for me to develop breadth and depth in my artistic studies and I relish the opportunities the course offers. I hope to discuss my application with you further.
