3. seeking the sun
January 3, 2014
I went to spin class for the first time in a few weeks. It felt great to be back at it. On the way home, I stopped to pick up cinnamon rolls for the girls, who I was sure were still sleeping. They were.
After showering and having a third cup of coffee, I sat in the family room chair, book in hand and read until I finished it. My eyes were heavy from the lack of sleep the previous night, but I kept on. I made a frozen burrito for lunch and encouraged the girls to eat something healthy.
I listened to my body's cues and laid down on the couch, under a quilt, with a cashmere sweater and uggs on my feet, trying to stay warm while I napped. I slept so soundly for twenty minutes and that was it.
The AT&T guy called and I made myself a fourth cup of coffee to warm up. I headed towards the front of the house where the sun was streaming through the dirty windows and immediately felt warmer. I never drank the coffee.
The nutcrackers and smokers found their homes in their respective boxes. Jane and Kate helped me take the ornaments off the tree and then I de-strung the lights. All the while, Matt from AT&T, was working to get us set up correctly. A little after five, both he and I finished our tasks. I moved on to making dinner and he went on his way.
Dinner was tasty, but we were cold sitting in the window. After, I turned on the TV and Fatty read the paper. He went to meet Pope at the Bonny and I tried to write a few things that need writing. The words were not flowing so I sunk myself into an episode of Modern Family with Jane before bed.
I read a little under the covers before turning out the lights. I had just fallen asleep when I heard Fatty return. I rolled over and closed my eyes again.
