Barred Owl ~ ( Strix varia)
I got to witness something extraordinary the other day. Around the Tampa area the water levels inland are very low. Many of my favorite parks, marshes and boardwalks are as dry as a bone.
I was birding at a one of these parks recently where the water levels were much lower than they usually were. There was a father teaching his son to fish off the boardwalk. I had begun to walk away and go in the other direction when I heard the boy scream, "I got one!". I instinctively turned around to see what he got when I saw a large brown figure silently swoop down from a tree across the water.
I had not noticed the barred owl perched as it was well covered, but it was clearly watching them fish as it came in and ripped the boys prize right off the lure and flew off with an easy meal.
Thanks for visiting!
