Is French Public Education dying ?

View On Black

Paris, May 12th, 2008: French Civil Servants (especially teachers) were on strike. They joined high-school pupils’ movement and went down in the street to protest against the suppression of 8.830 jobs in the National Education sector planned for next year. From 18,000 to 60,000 people gathered behind a banner entitled: “together to protect and improve Civil Service”.

This was a kind of rehearsal for a larger demonstration which will take place next week on Thursday May 22th. And this time, all Civil Services (postal, transport, energy, hospital, etc.) are asked to go on strike by unions.
