From the rubble and ash of The World Trade Center attacks, republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani sees his true reflection in a mirror. Benito Mussolini silently nods to his contemporary compatriot. In the reflection, the Italian dictator holds the symbol of his tyrannical reign -- Fascism comes from the Latin word for "a bundle of sticks", so named because it consolidates individuality into a controllable and captured mass. In the modern era, however, this brute force symbology is transposed as the two main icons of Republican authoritarianism, in refererence to the famous line from Sinclair Lewis' novel "It Can't Happen Here", in which he prophetically states that "....When Fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross....". Rudy Giuliani is the living embodiment of that bad omen.
