The Young Pompey

Portrait of Pompey the Great - Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus, (29 September 106 BC – 28 September 48 BC).

Probably due to a Roman artist, this head is a replica of an archetype created by a Greek master. The hasty style of the portraiture doesn’t mask the sculptor’s attempt to represent the ambition of the young man.

Roman marble portrait

About 70 BC
