Burkina Faso: Stairway to health for the children 2013
31/01/2013 – What to do when your country records one of the world’s highest infant mortality rates? The European Commission's humanitarian aid and civil protection directorate (ECHO) allocated €21.7 million of humanitarian aid to Burkina Faso's most vulnerable people in 2012. Humanitarian organisations funded by ECHO are leading the way. The Red Cross detects malnourished children in remote villages and refers severe cases. Medicos Del Mundo ensures they receive proper care at the hospital. HELP guarantees that all care to children and pregnant women is free. Provided there is political will, Burkina could roll out these measures and see the number of preventable child deaths plummet.
