Ahmed, 15, from Raqqa, starts a generator that gives power to a family's tent at an informal tented settlement for Syrian refugees in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, on Thursday July 24 2014.

Due to inadequacies in Lebanese power supply, tho safe only receives electricity for two hours a day and few refugees can afford generators or the fuel to run them regularly.

Suhail, 50, from Raqqa, told NRC that the lack of power made it almost impossible to keep food and made life difficult at night time: "When the days are shorter we feel like animals: when the sun goes down we go into our homes," he said.

NRC is running Community Capacity Building projects in the area to ensure community participation, information sharing and coordination of assistance in the ITSs.

The Community Capacity Building project applies a community based management approach which focuses on the involvement of the refugees in the identification of gaps in services, as well as in the planning and implementing the assistance.
