Fly Tying Marathon - 22 FEB 2014
The Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) Quantico - Fort Belvoir Fly Tying Marathon was held Sat., Feb. 22, at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Triangle, Va. The event drew 43 participants, 10 of which were current PHWFF Warriors.
During eight hours of tying, 716 flies were created for donation to the program. An additional 225 flies were donated (via mail) by those that wanted to help, but were not able to attend. The 941 flies will support PHWFF Warriors across the nation.
Participants came from as far away as North Carolina and West Virginia. The diversity of the participants was unique; people that had never tied before, a high school teacher with two of his students, and a 10-year-old young lady that was one half of a father-daughter tying team.
The PHWFF Quantico – Fort Belvoir programs have formed a partnership with the National Museum of the Marine Corps and have announced that this will now be an annual event. The date for 2015 Fly Tying Marathon will be announced in the near future.
