Apparent Hybrid Hooded Merganser x Bufflehead; Mississauga, Ontario

Jessie and I believe that this is likely a Hooded Merganser x Bufflehead. Certainly an odd looking bird that requires a bit of explanation. The Hooded Merganser traits are fairly straightforward.The overall size and shape seem more consistent with Bufflhead than either goldeneye. There is quite a bit of white on the wing suggesting an adult male. This in combination with the dark eye seem to also suggest Bufflehead.
