These villagers, standing in the doorway of their kitchen, represent the typical nuclear family structure of the Shuar people in El Tiink. This circular bamboo hut, with dirt floor and fire pit, is separated from the rest of the house and used for cooking and preparation of food. Today, the Shuar people are the largest indigenous population still living in the Amazon. Although much of their life has been changed by the modern world many things still remain the same. They try and keep their traditions alive despite the rampant deforestation and outside influences taking place around them.
