Sky & Half Dome
The view is from the Lower Yosemite Falls trail. The black oaks that frame the monolith are important to the valley's ecosystem and were "gardened" by the Awahnichi people before Euro-Americans came here. Now there's a struggle to bring the oaks back from the perilous state they've grown to without the care and cultivation of the native people. If the camera were angled lower it would include an old pioneer apple orchard and the elementary school grounds for the children of current NPS employees. Meadows and jungle gyms. Surreal.
