Shepherd Neame 1698

A bottle of 1698 from Shepherd Neame in Kent, England, at Brewery Õlleklubi in Tallinn.

Shepherd Neame 1698 is a 6.5% abv bottle conditioned, Kentish strong ale. This beer was first brewed in 1998 for the 300th anniversary of Shepherd Neame, the oldest brewery in existence in England - founded as long ago as 1698.

The beer poured a clear, golden amber color with a thin head. Aroma had a mild malt sweetness to it. Mouthfeel was surprisingly light, not what I expected from a 6.5% beer. The flavor started out with a mild malt character, then some noble hops appeared before I noticed a plastic offnote, a bit like linoleum. Could this bottle be Infected?
